Portrait of Paul Faass

About me

I design and build user-centred interfaces - from early ideas through to production. In my employed roles I usually work in agile teams; the client sites I build and promote here are solo work from concept through launch.

Frontend developer & UX designer

I am based in Germany and focus on human–computer interaction and hands-on product work. I like turning complex requirements into clear, accessible UIs and shipping web experiences that stay maintainable after launch.

Work & education

A quick overview of my professional roles and studies.

    Current

UX Software Engineer at Ergosign GmbH (Saarbrücken, Germany)

    • Nuxt.js
    • Vue
    • AI
    • Python

As a UX Software Engineer, I am part of a web development team at Ergosign. In addition to web development, I am also interested in topics related to AI and am therefore also involved in AI-related projects at Ergosign.

  2. Ergosign logo

UX Software Engineer (Intern) at Ergosign GmbH (Saarbrücken, Germany)

    • AI
    • Embeddings
    • Python
    • React
    • Django
    • Django REST

As a UX Software Engineering Intern, I was part of the development team at Ergosign. During my time as Intern, I was able to write my Master's thesis while working, with reference to a project.

  3. Hochschule Kaiserslautern logo

Hochschule Kaiserslautern, M. Sc. Computer Science - Human Technology Interaction

In my master's program, I chose to focus on Computer Science in the field of human-technology interaction. Theoretical content is often subsequently implemented in practical projects. I also learned about new areas, such as deep learning, virtual reality or psychological aspects of software development. In my master's thesis, I compared various AI-based search approaches with traditional text-based search strategies. To evaluate the strategies, I developed my own full-stack web application that not only implemented the search strategies, but also enabled the creation of reference data and automatic evaluation.

  4. Pxio logo

Frontend Developer at Pxio GmbH (Saarbrücken, Germany)

    • TypeScript
    • React
    • Electron.js
    • Node.js
    • Redux
    • Scrum
    • Git

As a working student at Pxio, I was fully involved in the software development process of the Pxio Desktop and Web applications. After completing my bachelor's degree, I gained my first hands-on experience in agile software development with Scrum at Pxio and built a solid knowledge of TypeScript, React, Redux, and Electron. Over time, as my skills evolved, so did my responsibilities. In addition to the apps, I was responsible for the underlying UI components and took over the organization and presentation of the results in Sprint Reviews in the Scrum process.

  5. MoCo Coffee liqueur logo

Graphic Designer at MoCo Coffee liqueur (Pirmasens, Germany)

    • Adobe Photoshop
    • Adobe Illustrator
    • Adobe InDesign
    • Social Media

Besides my studies, I had a part-time job as a graphic designer for a coffee liqueur manufacturer in my hometown. I mainly created print media or graphics for social media channels and promotional materials. The time helped me a lot to get a feeling before layouts and to develop an eye for a good and balanced design. Primarily, I became familiar and used the programs of the Adobe suite, especially Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign.

  6. Hochschule Kaiserslautern logo

Hochschule Kaiserslautern, B. Sc. Media Informatics

During my bachelor's degree I learned the basics of computer science and mathematics, programming, algorithms and data structures and much more. Due to the focus on media, topics of HCI and applied cognitive science were also present again and again. In my bachelor thesis I worked on the integration of a personalized development environment and the creation of web-based UI components into a driving simulation framework, which was supported by a research project at the university.

Skills

Technologies and tools I work with across design, frontend, and full-stack delivery - from prototypes to production.

Miscellaneous

Alongside my day job as a developer and designer, I stay active in other spaces - from the DJ booth to helping local clubs go digital.

  • DJ Booze

As DJ Booze I play out as a hobby DJ - it is a passion and also a second income stream for me.

  • SV Lemberg

On the board of my hometown club SV Lemberg, I drive digitalization - from the club website to processes around day-to-day sports operations.

  • Sportbund Pfalz

As a speaker for Sportbund Pfalz I run courses on digitalization in sports clubs and support associations taking their first steps online.
